His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago is a Nigerian Politician whose journey from the hallowed halls of academia to the bustling corridors of power exemplifies a steadfast commitment to progress and change. He is the 6th Executive Governor of Niger State, Nigeria. Born in Niger State on February 22, 1974, to parents of Nupe extraction, Governor Bago spent his early life in minna where he attended Marafa Primary School Minna to obtain his first school leaving certificate in 1985. He later moved to Federal Government Colleges, where he earned the West African School Certificate in 1991 with distinction and proceeded to Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science.
His thirst for knowledge drove him to pursue several Postgraduate Programmes that earned him Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Federal University of Technology Minna (2001); Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (2003); Master's Degree in Finance from the University of Calabar (2005), and the Certified Management Specialist designation with Distinction in Time Management from the London Graduate School (2020).
The Governor’s dedication to knowledge and growth was recognized by Cambridge University, United Kingdom, which conferred on him the title of Distinguished Alumnus in 2014. Governor Bago began his professional journey in the banking sector working with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Standard Trust Bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), and AfriBank.
