Historical Background of the University

The driving force for the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action is the phenomenal growth at the primary and post-primary education levels, which has thrown up a myriad of challenges. These challenges could not be divorced from the state of affairs in the nation’s education sector, but expectedly they have also manifested aspects that are essentially peculiar to Niger State. Some of the challenges include poor funding, decayed infrastructure, weak monitoring and evaluation system, erosion of pro-education values and dearth of instructional materials. Undoubtedly, of all these challenges, the dearth of adequate qualified, competent and motivated teaching workforce had attracted the most concern. The seriousness of this challenge in Niger State is most acute in the context of the dearth of teachers in primary and secondary schools.

The negative impact of the challenge aforementioned, especially the dearth of adequate and quality teaching workforce is not only glaring but becoming more enervating in terms of consequences as it upsets the realisation of Niger State’s vision of being one of the top three states economies in the country by 2030. It is in the light of this peculiar challenge that the Niger State Government is establishing the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, which is a 3 direct consequence of the visior’s vision and strategic exploration of green economy as demonstrated in the first ever green economy summit in Nigeria at the inception of his adminstration
